Office Scene Slimline Card – Three Room Studio Saturday Challenge

Hello crafty friends and welcome back! Today I was up on the Three Room Studio blog for our weekly Saturday Challenge, this week’s theme is slimline or square cards!

I love slimline cards because there’s so much room to make a scene! I know it’s a little weird to say this, but I honestly miss my hospital-based research office (which I haven’t been to in over a year because of the pandemic), so I thought I’d create a scene to look like our office for my card this week.

I started by roughly stamping out my scene on a scrap sheet of paper without masking or anything fancy — I just wanted to get an idea of where things were going to go so I could determine what needed to go “in front” which would be stamped first and then masked off on the real card. Once I had an idea where things were headed, I cut out a slimline card front (3.5″ x 8.5″) and got started. First, I stamped the chairs from the Cubicle Zirconia stamp set and created masks for them using Post-It Notes. Believe it or not, that was the only masking needed for this card! Then I stamped the desks, filing cabinet, water cooler, computers, and desk accessories using the Cubiculture stamp set.

I tried to make the scene look exactly like our office, down to the double monitors (if you’re a researcher/statistician, you know the deal), and even drew out the Windows lock screen on the left-hand computer. All my stamping was done with Gina K Designs obsidian black amalgam ink because this involved a lot of Copic coloring! I colored the whole scene with Copics (colors listed below) except the floor, which I opted to color using a gray colored pencil (Prismacolor 1054) and then blend out with Gamsol. Lastly, I white heat embossed the sentiment from Cubicle Zirconia (this set has tons of great sentiments you can team up together to create different messages!) on a black cardstock banner made with HoneyBee Stamps Sentiment Banners die. I adhered the banner down to the card front and adhered the card front to a top folding 3.5″ x 8.5″ card base.
