Twist-n-Pop Surprise – Penguin Palace

Hello and welcome back crafty friends! Today, I’m up on the Penguin Palace Blog for a design team post, and I thought I’d use the color palette inspiration from this month’s Penguin Palace Challenge!

I started by cutting each of the pieces from the Twist-n-Pop Surprise die (1 of the main piece and 2 of each of the others) from white cardstock. I started by creating my two little polaroid scenes by stamping some of the images from the My BFF stamp set using Gina K Designs Obsidian Black amalgam ink on my two die-cut rectangles (making sure to keep the scene inside of where the polaroid frame would cover). I created a mask for each of the images and also masked off the “ground” with a Post-It Note. Next, I ink blended the “sky” using Squeezed Lemonade, Kitsch Flamingo, and Milled Lavender distress oxide inks. I removed my masks and drew in the little hill on each panel with a Copic multiliner.

Next, I Copic colored the images using the following colors:

  • Grass–G00, G000
  • Clouds–C0, C00, R000 (cheeks)
  • Rainbow–BV01, BV31 | B01, B000 | Y02, Y00 | RV23, RV10
  • Two cats–W3, W1, W0
  • Single cat–T5, T1, R00 | W3, W0

Once the coloring was done, I glued the polaroid die-cut frames on top of each of the rectangle scenes. Next, I blended the bottom decorative panels with Kitsch Flamingo and Milled Lavender distress oxide inks, and the bottom banner pieces with Squeezed Lemonade. I stamped the “Best Fur-iends Forever” and “Thank You For Being A Great Friend” sentiments on the top banners and glued them onto the lower ones. Lastly I assembled the card (see here for an awesome tutorial) and added some white highlights to the scenes using Sakura Gelly Roll pens.

Everyone is welcome to join in the Penguin Palace monthly challenges—and there’s a chance to win a $25 gift card to the ppstamps.com shop! All you have to do is create a project inspired by the graphic (color palette) using at least one Penguin Palace product as your focal point and add your project to the blog using the link tool!
